From the Principal

It is with great pleasure and enormous pride that I welcome you to The Lakes South Morang P-9 School home on the web. This webpage has been designed to provide information to visitors who are new to the school and hopefully encourage you to look further and contact us to find out more.

Our first students entered the school at the commencement of 2007 which marked the culmination of years of planning to establish a school in The Lakes at South Morang.

The school has new buildings – $23million was spent on the buildings, but most importantly, our school has the best teachers and the best curriculum that is based on our knowledge of the latest research into effective schools, how students learn and what makes effective teaching and learning.

Significant aspects of The Lakes that set us ahead of other schools include:

  • Each student is part of a pastoral care group which meet with their pastoral care teacher for 30 minutes of each day.
  • Students are grouped into Sub-schools that stay together for three years.
  • In Years 7 – 9 core subjects are studied as an integrated program
  • Teachers work in cross-curricula Sub-school teams, not subject departments.
  • Teachers plan and teach in small teams.
  • Our day has 4 learning sessions.
  • The Subschool Leader manages staff and students, directs the curriculum planning and implementation and acts as a coach in the classroom to members of their team.
  • Open plan facilities that enable students to learn in various styles

Our school is still developing but has in place the structures, people, plans and curriculum to ensure that there are quality relationships between all school members and that our students are happy, safe and able to achieve extraordinary things.
