Early Years

The Early Years Campus at The Lakes South Morang College caters for students from Prep to Year 4.  The focus on our Early Years Campus is to provide a smooth transition from kindergarten to school and develop students’ cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. At The Lakes it is understood that the early years of learning are among the most significant periods of growth for children. Experiences during this time influence dispositions to learning and children’s views of themselves as learners.

The Early Years programs at The Lakes College support scaffolding, facilitating and monitoring learning.  Our beliefs about the teaching of literacy and numeracy incorporate a whole-part-whole approach, where teachers model and teach strategies explicitly, and then students work independently or with the teacher to practise strategies taught. Curriculum programs are differentiated and targeted to support the individualised learning needs of students.  Students work in flexible ability groups and utilise a range of learning spaces to encourage collaboration, problem solving and teamwork. Technology is used to support quality pedagogy and extend learning opportunities and curriculum breadth for all students.
